Fire Protectors

Fire Protectors

Fire Protectors® phosphate intumescent is a high-expansion material manufactured in Germany by Wolman Wood and Fire Protection GmbH and converted by Vanquish Hardware Protection for use in fire door hardware protection. Based on monoammonium phosphate technology, it is a widely specified solution for protecting critical door components such as hinges, locks and ironmongery within fire-rated assemblies.

Used in structural fire protection since 1952, Fire Protectors® is known for its ability to deliver extremely high expansion and reliable performance in demanding fire conditions. When exposed to heat, the material activates at approximately 150°C, initiating the first stage of expansion. A second expansion phase occurs at around 300°C, creating a powerful two-stage reaction that produces foaming factors of up to 95 times the original volume.

This controlled but aggressive expansion allows the intumescent to spread three-dimensionally into joints, gaps and cavities without the need for external pressure. As a result, it effectively seals voids around hardware and prevents the passage of heat, fire and smoke, helping to maintain compartmentation and protect adjoining areas.

The fine-pored foam structure formed during expansion provides strong thermal insulation, shielding hardware and surrounding materials from extreme temperatures. This contributes to extending the fire resistance performance of doors and building components, making it a suitable choice for applications where high levels of protection are required.

Fire Protectors® phosphate intumescent is third-party tested and accredited for hardware protection, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards. It is also available with full traceability print, supporting quality assurance and specification requirements across manufacturing and installation.

In terms of application, the material is widely used for intumescent hardware protection in fire doors, including hinges, locks, flush bolts and door control systems. It is also suitable for use in certain fire-resistant glazing applications, where effective sealing and insulation are required to prevent fire spread.

For manufacturers, fabricators and specifiers looking for a proven intumescent solution for fire door hardware, Fire Protectors® offers a combination of high expansion performance, low activation temperature and certified fire protection, making it a reliable choice for both standard and bespoke fire-rated systems.
